Dear Cultivators,

Cultivate update returns after a short break, with news from our -still quite new - base in WeCreate Workspace in Cloughjordan Eco-Village.  Bringing news on events and happenings from us and our community, this short missive will pop into your mailbox every 2 months.

In this update you will find:

2016 so far has been a high energy year, getting our permaculture programme rolled out for the year, and paying homage to the great Art of Facilitation with a very successful workshop back in February.

We held two events in March to accelerate the transition to a low carbon and resilient society; the first, Feeding Ourselves, was held with Cloughjordan Community Farm on the local food economy and the second focused on the opportunities and barriers of local and community owned renewable energy.

Spring sees everyone and everything coming back with a new energy.  The Community Apiary ran a very successful workshop on beekeeping and willow weaving, in the process creating a beautiful willow fence around their hives in the allotments.

Hot off the presses comes the all new Cloughjordan Ecovillage Calendar of Events with listings for all the courses, classes and events happening in the ecovillage this year.

In other exciting news, the Cloughjordan Co-op has just got the key in the door to open their new premises, so keep a look out for the community crafts, café and funky space emerging very soon!

Also the RTE Nationwide team were in the ecovillage this week, filming a piece for their ecovillage episode, due to air June 2016, watch this space…..

Permaculture QQI L5 Spring Course 2016
Three Weekends: 23-24 Apr, 7-8 May and 21-22 May 2016

 pc fetac

Running a permaculture design course in the Autumn is a different kettle of fish from the springtime courses, a different energy.  Regardless of the time of year it’s always a huge pleasure to have a group of students in Cloughjordan.  Students stay here in the eco-village and get a true insight into what’s working well here along with what’s not! It’s a lot to pack into 3 weekends from the QQI (formerly FETAC) syllabus already, so with the added value of the eco-location and all that it brings… well, it’s a full-on living and learning experience.

Our most recent course saw Bruce Darrell of The RED Gardens running a pop-up feast as a new part of the course offering.  From ‘Soil to Plate’ gives students a chance to dine together with local residents, discuss the whys and wherefores of permaculture whilst enjoying Bruce’s fantastic dishes prepared from his own crop, oh, and a glass or few of wine.

There are only few places left on the upcoming Spring Permaculture Design Course, this beginners accredited course is spread over 3 weekends and focuses on green and natural building, organic growing and sustainable agriculture amongst other things, so get booking!

Rise Up: The Power of the Arts to Inspire Change
Wednesday 18th May, 10am to 5pm - WeCreate Workspace

RiseUp initial flyer.001

Hosted by Cultivate in partnership with Cloughjordan Arts, with support from Tipperary County Council.

A one day symposium in Cloughjordan, the birthplace of the poet and patriot Thomas MacDonagh, on the role of the artist and culture creatives in times of transition.

Reflecting on the role of the artist in the rising of 1916, this event will explore the power of the arts and creativity to challenge injustice, individualism, and consumerism now.

What is the response of the artistic and creative community to the vexing problems of climate change, social justice and an unsustainable culture?

How can the arts change our sense of what is possible and engage society on climate action?

Can the the arts help convey the strength, optimism, and urgency we need to move to a fair and resilient future?
